Danish cross-stitch bell pull - 1966

This is a vintage 1966 Danish cross-stitch bell pull with a series of European garden birds! These narrow wall tapestries were a classic staple of mid-century Scandinavian textiles specifically from Denmark. These narrow embroidered strips of fabric were attached to a wire mechanism in wealthy European households. Pulling the textile cord rang a bell downstairs to summon servants or house staff. The names of each bird are in Danish beneath the bird. It is fitted with its traditional ornate brass/bronze hanging hardware. This piece was pretty stained. I did clean it and soak it however, I'm not an expert in caring for cross-stitch/tapestry, there is still some staining. It measures 47” from hardware to hardware and is 5.5” wide. 

It truly is a beautiful piece!
